Prayer for Special Times, 9/11

God of mercy and steadfast love, on this difficult day we pause as a people who remember. Some among us still recall the shock, the fear, and the dread that swept across our nation twenty‑five years ago. Even now, hearts ache with losses that time has not erased, and memories rise unbidden — tender, painful, sacred.

We pray for the peace that passes understanding, for those whose wounds remain open, for families who still grieve, for first responders who carry invisible scars, and for communities forever changed.

In the aftermath of 9/11, many still carry fear, anger, or uncertainty. Redeem those places within us, O God. Redirect our spirits toward understanding, compassion, and unity. Teach us to see beyond our differences and to recognize one another as members of one human family, each made in Your image, each held in Your care.

Make us peacemakers in our neighborhoods, bridge‑builders in our divided world, and bearers of Your light wherever darkness still lingers. Let Your Spirit guide our steps so that our remembrance leads not to bitterness but to a deeper commitment to love.

Grant peace in our hearts. Grant peace in our world. Grant peace that only You can give.

In the name of Christ, our hope and our peace, Amen.
